Welcome to the blog for Southern Star Mini Aussies, now also known as Miniature American Shepherds, affectionally called "Wiggle Butts". This is a wonderful breed that is very intelligent, loyal and can be somewhat active and may be reserved with strangers. Many excel in performance events such as herding, agility, disc dog, flyball, dock diving, rally, conformation, and enjoy most being your best buddy. Mini Aussies range in size from 14"-18" top of shoulder and 20-40lbs. The smaller versions are referred to as Toy Aussies. These fur-kids are very much like potato chips and you can't have just one. If you would like to be owned by an Aussie, we would love to talk to you.

Update on Yahtzee aka Piper (sister to Cash on my site)

Hi there! It has been quite some time since I have updated you about Piper (formerly Yatzee from your kennel). I have had Piper for over 2 years now and she is a wonderful part of our family. Piper and I love to play frisbee and she is really good at it! Rarely does she not catch one and if she does miss it is usually because of a poor throw by me. Whenever we go into the backyard the first thing she does is get her frisbee and run over and drop it at my foot. More recently I have discovered that she loves to play soccer. My mother-in-law ramdomly purchased some plastic balls from Walmart one day and threw them in the backyard for the dogs to play with and now Piper loves to chase and heard the balls all over the yard with her head and nose. It is really funny to watch and she will go non-stop. She really likes when I throw the ball in the air so she can jump up and do a header to hit the ball even higher into the air and then chase it. She will even head the ball right back to you like we are playing catch. Any way just wanted to let you know that all is well and we are having a great time here in Houston. I will try and update more often when I can.

Sincerely,

Robin and Piper

P.S. I have attached a couple of pictures of Piper. One is her jumping up playing soccer and heading the ball and the other is her just looking cute.

ZZ Top Arrives in Vermont

Hi
The puppie arrived last night at our house at midnight.  He slept until the sun got him up and then we let him wake up our daughter.  The have been playing together ever since except for some naps!  I even took him to a playgroup as I did not want to leave him home alone after all that travel.  He was awsome, he loved following the kids around, jumping in the kiddie pool, licking the babies faces.  My four month old son will have the cleanest face in town!  Everyone there loved him. Afterwards, I was able to snap a few pictures before I realized the battery to my camera ran out!
I think he is going to make a wonderful addition to our family!  Thank you!  I will try to send some more pictures.
Thank you
Melissa

Metallica aka "Cricket" Made it Home to Louisiana

Hi Leslie!

Metallica aka Cricket is back home in New Orleans and is an absolute joy! We spent the weekend in Fort Worth for the holiday, and within 24 hours, she was telling us when she needed to go potty, responding to her name, and sleeping like a champ! The first night she slept the entire night without a peep! The next night she would whine for maybe 10 minutes, then slept until she had to go potty at 1 am. I have to agree with Kathy when I say that I think I've somehow killed her when she is quiet in her crate!!! It's too good to be true! I was worried about the 8 hour car ride back to New Orleans on Monday, but she again surprised me. She slept THE WHOLE WAY THERE in her crate, and would go potty when we stopped for gas. This little girl has already brought us so much love and joy, and we can't wait to watch her grow up! Pictures to come soon!

I can never thank you enough for everything you do for these puppies. She is so well adjusted, calm and loving and I truly appreciate all the love and care that went into her first 8 weeks!

Daughtry aka "Tucker" Enjoys the Great Life

A note from Haley:
Tuck is doing amazing! He goes to the door when he needs to potty and we went swimming and he was fearless! He jumped in so many times and chased crow around as well! I think he's going to for in just fine! And he loves his bed ! He backs up and then runs and jumps on it! He's already got a million toys but his favorite is this stuffed shark!  I'll send a pic!

Styx aka "Cody" Back Home in New Jersey

Thanks to this wonderful family for flying to Texas just to pick up thier special lil guy....   So, glad he was quiet on the plane !! :)

Hi Leslie.

You were right....Cody deserved the Quiet Traveler Award.  He did
great through the plane ride and both car rides.  The airport was very
quiet.  I was carrying him and had him on my lap so was a little
worried they would say something but they just wanted to take pictures
of him.

He's settling in great, as well.  The biggest challenge is at night.
He's not particularly fond of being confined.  I am putting his food,
treats, etc, in his crate.  He keeps one foot out at all times to keep
his options open.

Last night was the battle of the wills between Cody and 2 of my
daughters.  Luckily they won out but not easily!  During the day he
loves being around us and has been doing great with his
housebreaking.  He is also doing great with my daughter's cat, Mimi.

He goes to the vet's tomorrow just for a quick check and I'd like for
his first visit there to be shot free.

We'll send pictures!

Thanks for starting us off on such a great footing.  It makes all the
difference.
